Continuing Medical Education (CME)
Background
UEMS (Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes, European Union of Medical Specialists) was founded in 1958 for the harmonisation of postgraduate training (PGT) and continuing medical education (CME) and continuing professional development(CPD, “lifelong learning”) in Europe. Dermatovenereology is represented by the Section & Board D/V, with two delegates per country, including the countries of EFTA as full members. UEMS provides also a system for a consensus in accreditation through its EACCME (European Accreditation Council for CME). The accreditation unit is the ECMEC (European CME Credit). One hour of continuing medical education (CME) is one ECMEC, but because it is not considered that anyone would sit for more than a certain amount of hours in a lecture hall, the maximum of ECMECs per day is limited to 6, and to a maximum of 3 per half day. The ECMEC is subsidiary to national credits. If a participant comes from a country where a maximum of credits is not limited by the National Accreditation Authority (NAA), he or she may claim the total of hours attended. The NAA can be contacted in case of any doubt.
Procedure
EADV events are accredited by the UEMS-EACCME in Brussels. EADV offers an individual CME-CPD participation through the barcode on participant badges which will be scanned by hostesses as participants enter session rooms. A minimum of 25 minutes session attendance is required to qualify for CME-CPD accreditation of that session and each medical specialist will be accredited only with the actual hours spent in sessions as recorded by the scanning process. A speaker/session evaluation form for each session will be available at the entrance(s) to each session room and should be completed and duly deposited at the end of each lecture. The form is only available at the time of the session and we ask as many participants as possible to give their opinions on these forms to contribute actively to our statistics. Certificates will be available for a limited time for participants to download themselves after the congress. Information on what is needed to do this will be given in the final programme. Certificates are no longer mailed and copies are no longer possible.
