INVITATION TO THE 19th EADV CONGRESS GOTHENBURG 2010

Dear friends and colleagues,

The 19th Congress of the European Academy Of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 6 to10 October, 2010. This is the first time the EADV is hosted in Sweden and the Local Organising Committee is very proud to organise the event. The Gothenburg 2010 EADV Congress will be organised by The Swedish Society of Dermatology and Venereology. Dermatology and venereology has a more than 100 year old tradition in Sweden. Despite Sweden’s comparatively few inhabitants, Swedish clinical research is of an especially high class. Recently, an investigation revealed that dermatology and venereology are among the specialties in Sweden that are growing in competitiveness.

Gothenburg is the second largest city in Sweden. It is the largest port in Scandinavia and hosts a number of well known industries such as Volvo, SKF, AstraZeneca etc. Gothenburg and its surroundings attract more and more interest from visitors. Also, the cultural sector is prominent with, for instance, a newly-built opera house at the waterfront and a well-known art museum.

The meeting venue of the 19th EADV Congress will be the Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre. This is very centrally located right in the middle of the city with lots of hotels within walking distance. Every second year, it attracts the annual meeting of the Swedish Society of Medicine with far more than 10 000 delegates.

We have tried to put together a programme that will present the most recent developments in clinical as well as experimental dermatology and venereology. The programme will consist of plenary lectures, symposia, workshops, courses on very hot topics for both office and hospital based dermatologists and venereologists. Also, “What’s New” lectures and satellite symposia will provide up to date knowledge. This is a very good way of keeping up to date in a dermatological world that is virtually exploding in terms of new knowledge.

Moreover, specialised dermatological sub specialty societies will be supported by the EADV. We hope to see you in Gothenburg in October 2010.

We will make every effort to create a high class meeting, both practise- as well as scientifically-orientated.

Professor Olle Larkö

Congress President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The 19th annual EADV Congress takes us to the northern parts of Europe in the Nordic country of Sweden and its second largest city – Gothenburg, to which I invite you to join me for yet another exciting EADV event.

With the autumn season in its onset, Gothenburg is the ideal location to begin the wind-down from the busy summer months and take in the fresh air that blows Scandinavia’s largest harbour, giving justice to the congress motto “Making waves in dermatology”.

The high level of scientific content presenting the recent developments in dermatology and venereology will help make each of us just that little bit more knowledgeable after its completion and the Congress President Olle Larko with his local organizing team will ensure that nobody leaves dissatisfied.

In keeping with the times, the EADV continues to develop and each year there are new events and exciting happenings that are incorporated within the programme but nonetheless maintaining the traditions we all know and appreciate. Participants will find a suitable event/session to their liking which will prove stimulating and fruitful.

Known as an event city and home to a large population of students due to its universities, Gothenburg has plenty to see and do in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Whether it is a cruise along the canal or a stroll down the vibrant main street the “Avenyn”, I am sure each will find their way to enjoy the pleasures that this charming city has to offer.

I welcome you to the 19th EADV congress in Gothenburg and hope to see you there.

With warmest regards,

Professor Andreas Katsambas

EADV President
